Today is the third annual celebration of National Day on Writing. As part of the celebration, the National Writing Project is encouraging people to tweet about why they write, using the hashtag #whyiwrite. To help get you in the spirit, here is George Orwell’s essay, “Why I Write.” It’s a long read, but what do you expect from those dark ages where writers were not limited to 140 characters?
