Looper and SDCC

Another winner at SDCC was the movie Looper. First, there was a new trailer that was released before SDCC that gives you a great feel for what the movie is about, beyond time travel and gangsters (although that is a big part of it). I like the idea of someone going back in time not to change their own past, but to change someone else’s future…even if that someone else is, in fact, that person. Check out the trailer for Looper below while I plug the leak in my brain that last sentence caused:

Second, at SDCC, the Looper panel showed more footage (expanding on the above trailer) and explaining a little. It looks like Looper has done a good job of creating two highly motivated and highly capable characters, each trying to protect what is theirs, even if those two characters are the same person (there goes that leak again). It also looks like there’s a riff on the “let’s go back and kill Hitler” trope. Even Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s makeup doesn’t bother me so much anymore, and I can hear the Bruce Willis speech patterns he was going for.

Looper comes out late in September, and I hope it’s as good as it looks. I’m just wary of everything now after Prometheus. And in case you’re wondering, yes, this is the last of my SDCC posts.
