Apparently, in my excitement, I overlooked something. You see, Brandon Sanderson (as well as Harriet McDougal, Kate Reading, and Michael Kramer) are not coming to Books-A-Million in Baltimore until February 18, not January 18.
So I finished A MEMORY OF LIGHT (review coming soon) and drove to Baltimore only to see no line, no chairs, and no crowds. I wondered what the heck was going on. Then I checked the calendar. Womp womp. Oh well, at least I got to have dinner with some members of my family before driving back to DC.
It was a good dry run. I’ll be sure to post some photos and details in a month. Until then, look for my review and my Fantasy-Faction articles this week. But today, enjoy your holiday if your employer gives you MLK Day off, and enjoy the inauguration. I’ll be watching it from the best seat in the house–my living room sofa. Where the view is unobstructed, where it’s warm, and where I have access to private bathrooms.
Once while in Prague my friends and I decided to go see a movie. We had intended to see ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.’ which was playing in English with Czech subtitles. Due to my inability to read a calendar (keep in mind calendars pretty much look the same in any language and rely heavily on numerals) we ended up seeing ‘The Idiots,’ a Lars Von Trier movie in Danish with Czech subtitles. Admittedly this has been one of my more memorable cinematic experiences and I think I may have actually enjoyed the movie more than if I had seen it with English subtitles.
P.s. I’m about half way through ‘A Memory of Light’ and am looking forward to your review.
