I loved District 9 (and if you haven’t seen it yet, please go do so ASAP.). It was a touching story told in a really creative, striking way. Its budget was a fraction of that of the Transformers films, yet it was better in every way. So of course, I’ve been waiting for Neill Blomkamp’s next film, Elysium. Starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley, the tagline is
Set in the year 2159, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth, a man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds.
Here’s the trailer.
It looks pretty good. Maybe in a few years, Blomkamp can become the next J.J. Abrams and get a crack at some major franchises. Of course, he may prefer to work on his own. It seems to be working for him so far.
And if you are interested, io9 has a great breakdown of the trailer.
