Add Some Nitro to your NaNoWriMo Fuel the Rachel Aaron Way

As I originally wrote about here (and updated here and here), I’ve been experimenting with Rachel Aaron’s (Twitter) method for increasing my daily word count.

You see, NaNoWriMo requires you to write about 1,500 words per day for 30 consecutive days in order to reach the 50,000 word threshold. But Rachel Aaron has increased her word count from 2,000 words per day to 10,000! She can knock out NaNoWriMo in a week, and still watch TV all weekend. Sounds good right? Even if you don’t get up to 10k a day, increasing your word count above that 1,500 level will mean you can take some time off in November for, oh, I don’t know, Thanksgiving Day with your family or the occasional lazy Sunday. And a happy, relaxed, well-fed writer tends to be a more productive writer. Unless you’re Sylvia Plath, but that’s another blogpost.

I can hear you asking, “Sounds great, Eric, but how do I increase my word count?” Well, funny you should ask, audience. Rachel has put together an an e-book on how to do it. It’s up on Amazon for $0.99 and it expands off her original ideas. I’ve had a lot of success using her methods (and tweaking them to fit my needs and abilities). While I haven’t reached the 10k a day level, my word counts (and the quality of my work) have improved. I’d definitely recommend you pick up her book now so you can start putting it to use ASAP.
