Recently, the Fantasy subreddit ran a survey on book piracy. As you can see on the link, about 600 people responded, and they have made the responses and graphs available, as well as criticisms of the survey itself.
While I think the graphs weren’t all that surprising, I found the responses explaining/justifying/rationalizing piracy to be the most interesting aspect of the survey. They are definitely worth a read if you have some time.
