Damien Walter (Twitter) has written a great article about Neil Gaiman’s latest book, THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE.
WARNING, ARTICLE CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS ABOUT GAIMAN’S BOOKS.
I really liked the article because he talks about using trauma as inspiration. No, I’m not a fan of having trauma inflicted upon people. But I am a fan of using trauma productively, about learning how to transform trauma into art. I enjoy reading writers who can evoke raw, painful emotion in a reader miles and even years away. It’s a powerful thing. In other words, if you aren’t reading Neil Gaiman, you should fix that, ASAP.
