While everyone is excited about Iron Man 3 (coming out May 3), don’t forget about Thor 2: The Dark World (coming out November 8). Apparently the rest of the Avengers are too busy to assemble during 2013 because Tony Stark will fight The Mandarin by himself, while Thor will single-handedly fight the Dark Elves and Malekith the Accursed (as played by ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston). Well, I take that back. As you’ll see below, he might have some (non-Avenger) help. Check it out.
It looks like most of the original Thor gang are back, including Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, and Tom Hiddleston (because what’s a Thor movie without Loki?). While the trailer focuses a lot on those faces (and voices), it also leaves out a lot of the plot. But it looks like it has a similar, darker tone to it–like Iron Man 3.
I didn’t grow up reading a lot of Thor comics, so I had to do some digging around about the story and about Malekith. It could be interesting, but I wonder if the lack of big, iconic villains will hurt the movie. And I wonder if the non-summer, non-holiday-weekend release might also hurt their box office returns. Time will tell, I suppose. I’d hate for it to have to depend on a big trailer or a post-credit cameo to get butts in the seats.
