With the rapid approach of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary, I’ve been rewatching Doctor Who on Netflix–well, the more recent episodes with Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith. It’s been like re-reading a favorite book: finding new subtleties, reliving favorite jokes and reveals, and skimming over the less stellar moments. It has also been a great joy to get reacquainted with the companions and quasi-companions.
I have been comparing Doctors and show runners all over again. I won’t bore you with my likes and dislikes. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone has their favorites. But it is quite interesting to see where my opinions have, and have not, changed.
If you have access to Netflix streaming, the DVDs, or some other service, I would highly recommend a re-watch. You have until November, so why not? Plenty of time. Besides, everyone can use a little more Doctor in their lives.
However, if you are more interested in the future instead of the past, there are rumors about John Hurt’s role in the 50th Anniversary. I won’t spoil it for you, but if you want to learn about these rumors (AGAIN, SPOILERS. MASSIVE, HUGE, TREMENDOUS SPOILERS AHEAD. I CAN’T SAY IT MORE CLEARLY.), you can click here for a very revealing (SPOILERY) picture. Click at your own risk.
