Well, it’s that time of year again: National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is right around the corner. Soon writers everywhere will be working throughout the oh-so-short month of November, trying to reach 50,000 words. I managed to hit that total last year and wrote a post listing the top ten lessons learned. Now it’s time to get ready for another month of fiction writing.
While I don’t think there are many hard and fast rules that work for everyone, I will say that it helped me to hit the ground running. So whether you outline (I do) or whether you just put together a few notes on plot and character sketches (I need to do more of this), it’s best to spend October prepping. You can find tips all over the internet if you are curious or don’t know where to begin.
Personally, I have been toying with a couple of ideas. Time to pick one and start testing it to see if it will survive the stresses of NaNoWriMo. What about you? How are you prepping for NaNoWriMo?
